Tribulus Terrestris

This is another Chinese herb that has been used through the ages for sexual problems. It is used primarily for the following:

  • Provides cardiovascular support
  • Improves sperm motility and the reaction that causes fertilization when the red receptors on the sperm come in contact with the egg jelly yellow.
  • Sexual support

Cardiovascular Support

Research has shown that tribulus decreases heart rate, lowers blood pressure and reduces LDL cholesterol levels.

Fertility

Studies have also documented an improvement in sperm health. Researchers at Setiawan Airlangga University in Surabaya, Indonesia published the results of a double-blind study in 1996. Thirty men with a common issue causing subfertility were given either 500 mg of tribulus or Libilov, three times daily for 60 days or a placebo. The participant’s sperm health was tested and documented both before and after the 60 days. Tribulus Terrestris L, given at a dose of 500 mg three times daily restored sperm functions like motility (the strength to break through the egg’s outer membrane) and acrosome reactions (when the red receptors on the sperm come in contact with the egg jelly yellow) after the first thirty days.

Sexual Support

Tribulus Terrestris has a mild impact on libido, erection, and sexual satisfaction. It reduces anxiety, mildly improves erection rigidity, helps control premature ejaculation, and helps provide a stronger climax.
However, all of these benefits are only mild improvements.

Dosage

Research suggests that low doses are better than high doses.

Use an extract that contains 60 percent saponins=100 to 200 mg daily.

Root powder=5 to 6 grams.

Warnings and Side Effects

Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take tribulus terrestris.

Increasing testosterone levels may also increase the possibility of contracting hormone-related cancers such as breast or prostate cancer.

Existing hormone related cancers may get worse.
